Title: New Kid on the Block: What do Millennials Want from the Workplace?

Location: Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen
                  76 NE Loop 410
                  San Antonio, Texas 78216

Description:

Millennials have surpassed Generation X to become the largest cohort in the United States workforce and it’s expected that they will comprise 50% of the U.S. workforce by the year 2020. This dramatic shift requires organizations to move beyond stereotypes and understand the characteristics that distinguish this generation from those before. Understanding millennials will be fundamental to creating dynamic and positive workplaces that attract talent and promote creativity and leadership. In effort to better understand a millennial’s motivations, priorities and career expectations, we go right to the source and ask a millennial. In this presentation, we will explore the answers to the following questions from the millennial perspective:

  • What stereotype most affect millennials?
  • Do you feel that there is still a gender gap in potential leadership?
  • How important has mentoring been in your professional development?
  • What does job satisfaction mean to you?

Facilitator: Kim Gutierrez, CPS Energy

Kim specializes in creating effective professional development curriculum and assessments. Kim is employed at CPS Energy, having previously worked in the Training Departments of AIM Specialty Health, Inc. and GoldMax in Chicago, Illinois. Between studying for her MS.Ed. in Instructional Technology, and my 6+ years of professional experience in Learning and Development, Kim has gained a diverse skill-set in instructional technology, LMS administration, classroom facilitation, and instructional design. Her favorite thing about teaching is learning. She finds that she has never walked into a classroom knowing everything. Kim’s students with their different experiences and knowledgebase always have something new to teach her and each other. Training is so dynamic that she feels you never walk into the same classroom twice.
