Objectives:

  • To learn the benefits of creating a Strengths-based working environment through Gallup StrengthsFinder
  • To understand best practices of taking Strengths assessment, research-based talent development tool that measures level of talent in 34 themes
  • To review various practical ways of implementing and cultivating a Strengths-based work environment through Human Resources practices

Speakers: 
Marisa Ortiz, Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach
Global Learning & Development Consultant

Background: Entrepreneurial Learning and Development consultant with a global perspective and cultural intelligence, Marisa Ortiz offers training solutions to clients all sizes using her experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Prior to becoming self-employed, Marisa worked 8 years at Rackspace Hosting, most of that time as a Business Trainer and Strengths Program Manager in their corporate university, and 3 years serving international clients, specializing in Asia and Latin America IT business. Previous to that, Marisa worked 5 years at a local non-profit for people with disabilities; managing a grant-training program for home health services, coordinating community events and advocating independence for Texans with disabilities. Additionally, Marisa has been a Fair Trade activist since 2005 through Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. She has a BA in Political Science and French for UT El Paso and an MA in International Relations with a Development concentration from St. Mary’s University

Speaker Accomplishments: Professional trained singer and dancer. At age 10 she participated in Mexico’s national TV singing contest, and made it to the top 10 finalist collection LP and cassette;  Received the 2007 Marianist Development Scholarship from St. Mary’s University brothers for graduate level academic performance; lives a natural and sustainable life on 4 acres in the south of Bexar County with her husband and 2 year-old daughter Fauna. She is expecting her second child due in early May.
