Summary: Talent Development professionals use the Performance Improvement process to analyze root causes; select, design, and implement solutions to address those issues; and measure the results of the solution with the goal of continually improving performance. One way that it differs from traditional training is that it focuses on identifying the true root causes of performance issues and their relevance to business goals before ever considering training as a solution.

About the Speaker: Mark Phillips, Ph.D.
Background: Mark W. Phillips is a Lecturer in the UTSA College of Business Department of Management and teaches in the Undergraduate, MBA and Executive MBA programs. At USAA he was the Practice Lead for Process Engineering, Director of Core Competency Development, Lead Project Manager and Lead Business Manager.
Accomplishments: Serving in the military he was a project manager for the U.S. Air Force serving as a project manager in the C-17 System Program and was Chief of Performance Consulting for Headquarters Air Education and Training Command. Mark also served on several tours to the People's Republic of China working in liaison with the Chinese Association of Science and Technology.
Certifications: Mark has certifications in Innovation Development from UT Austin, Certified Six Sigma Black Belt Instructor from Air Academy Associates, Certified Master Black Belt Instructor from Price Waterhouse Coopers, Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM), Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) and is a Certified Professional Project Manager (PMP).
