Local San Antonio companies are having a hard time finding qualified applicants for their job openings especially if STEM skills are needed. Teachers are searching for ways to show their students how math and science apply to their lives and future employment. Texas House Bill 5 requires students to choose one of five “endorsements” which will be reflected on their graduation diploma. Three of the endorsements are STEM, Business & Industry, Public Services (which includes Health Sciences). These are only a few reasons why we need to connect education and local businesses/organizations.
This session will demonstrate a cloud-based technology called Nepris which facilitates connecting our businesses and industry with classrooms. This platform enables every teacher to connect his/her students to the real world by virtually bringing industry professionals into the classroom. It will help teachers gain access to hard to find capabilities such as STEM. Companies like Frito Lay, Samsung, Monsanto and General Motors are using Nepris for increasing employee engagement in K12 outreach.
